Anxiety Therapy in Broomfield and Erie, CO
Evidence-Based Anxiety Counseling for Kids, Teens and Adults
Anxiety can feel overwhelming.
Your mind races, your body tightens, and it becomes hard to slow down long enough to catch your breath.
None of these symptoms mean you are broken. In fact, your body is asking you to listen, and it means your mind and body need care, support, and a clearer path forward.
At Sojourn Counseling, we can help you understand your anxiety, calm your body, and build confidence.
We offer evidence-based anxiety therapy and panic attack therapy that help you understand your symptoms, calm your body, and build confidence in your ability to handle the stressors in your life. Through anxiety counseling, we’ll help you understand what triggers your anxiety, ease physical symptoms, quiet rumination, and build practical skills to help you feel more in control.
We don’t rush your process. We meet you with warmth and guidance so therapy for anxiety feels like a safe place to learn, try, and grow.
Anxiety Therapy May Be A Good Fit If:
Therapy for anxiety can help you quiet the constant mental noise, feel safer in your body, and respond to life with more confidence and ease.
Your mind won’t shut off, cycling through worries and “what ifs.”
You feel tense, overwhelmed, or constantly on edge.
You overthink decisions or frequently second-guess yourself.
Anxiety shows up physically through tension, panic, stomach issues, or a racing heart.
You’re exhausted, but still struggle to slow down or sleep.
Worry or avoidance keeps you from being fully present.
Form A Trusted Connection
Anxiety therapy starts with feeling safe enough to be honest. We’ll create a space where you can slow down, feel known, and talk through what’s been weighing on you.
How We Help Clients During Anxiety Counseling
Understand Your Anxiety
Together, we’ll uncover your triggers, patterns, and things that keep anxiety going, so you can better understand what’s happening and why.
Respond With Compassion
Anxiety often comes with a harsh inner critic. We’ll help you respond to yourself with more patience, compassion, and understanding.
Change Anxious Thought Patterns
In anxiety counseling, you will learn practical, evidence-based ways to step out of overthinking, catastrophic thoughts, and worry loops.
Calm Your Body
Build tools to calm your nervous system and feel more grounded when anxiety shows up in your body.
Build Confidence
Practice facing what anxiety tells you to avoid, so you can trust yourself more and let anxiety have less say in your life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT for anxiety helps you recognize the thought patterns that fuel worry and fear, then learn to respond with more balanced, flexible, and supportive thinking.
Evidence-Based Anxiety Therapy Modalities
While each Sojourn Counseling anxiety therapist personalizes treatment based on your needs and their specialty training, these three modalities serve as some of the foundational approaches for anxiety counseling.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
ACT for anxiety helps you make space for anxious thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, so you can stay present, feel less controlled by anxiety, and move toward what matters to you.
Exposure & Response Prevention Therapy
ERP for anxiety helps you gradually face feared situations while resisting anxious coping patterns, building confidence that you can handle discomfort without letting anxiety take control.

Calm Your Body
Box Breathing
When anxiety activates your body, slowing your breath can help signal safety. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, and hold for 4. Repeat a few times and notice what shifts.
Anxiety Therapy Tools
You don’t have to wait to start responding to anxiety differently. Try these simple anxiety tools to calm your body, change your relationship with anxious thoughts, and meet yourself with more compassion.
Step Back From the Thought
“I notice I’m having the thought.”
You are not every thought your mind produces. Try adding, “I’m noticing I’m having the thought that…” before an anxious thought. This small shift can create space between you and your anxiety, helping you notice a thought without automatically believing it. This is called a cognitive defusion, and comes from ACT therapy.
Put Down the Second Arrow
Respond to Pain With Compassion
When something painful happens in life, that is the first arrow. Anxiety often adds a second: “Why can’t I handle this?” “What’s wrong with me?” “I shouldn’t feel this way.” We can’t always prevent life’s first arrow, but we can learn to stop adding another and respond to ourselves with compassion instead.

FAQs
-
If anxiety or panic attacks are interfering with sleep, decision-making, self-esteem, relationships, school, or work, therapy can help. Many clients come in because they feel overwhelmed, stuck in overthinking, or exhausted from trying to manage everything alone.
-
Every person’s story is different, but many people feel relief within the first few sessions as they learn what anxiety is doing in their body and how to respond with more calm and clarity. Deeper patterns such as chronic perfectionism, long-term rumination, or trauma-based negative beliefs take more time, but progress is possible, and we see forward movement with our clients everyday.
-
Social media increases comparison, pressure, and overstimulation. Anxiety therapy can help you understand this dynamic, create boundaries that support your wellbeing, and build habits that protect your emotional health in a digital world.
If you have a child or teenager, we recommend the book The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. He offers a thoughtful look at the connection between rising mental health concerns and social media use, and shares helpful insights that give many parents a sense of clarity and hope.

Absolutely. Our favorites include Self-Compassion by Dr. Kristin Neff, The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris, and The Wisdom of Anxiety by Sheryl Paul. We can also recommend articles, podcasts, and mindfulness tools during your sessions.
